Terms of Service
The short version: be 18 or older and a verified student, show up when you say yes, treat people well, and use Qwest for meeting people in public places, not for anything else.
Template under legal review. These terms were written to match how Qwest's software actually works. They have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer, and they are not legal advice.
The agreement
These terms are between you and Qwest (“Qwest”, “we”). You accept them when you reply YES to Qwest's sign-up text, or when you sign in to this website. The Privacy Notice explains what we collect and is part of these terms.
Who can use Qwest
- You must be 18 or older. You confirm this when you agree to these terms. Qwest may add an ID check later and will tell you before it does.
- You must be a current student at a school Qwest serves, confirmed by a university email address you control. That address is the only way in.
- One account per person, on your own phone number. Do not sign up on someone else's behalf.
Text messages
By replying YES you agree to receive text messages from Qwest: replies to what you send, quest invites, a group text when a quest forms, reminders, and follow-up questions. Message frequency varies with how often you quest. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Text HELP at any time for help, and STOP to stop all messages; text START to come back.
How quests work
- You text what you are up for. Qwest looks for two or three other verified students who want something similar and a public place or event that fits.
- Qwest invites each person privately. You reply YES or NO. Invites expire if unanswered.
- Once at least three people accept, Qwest starts an iMessage group with the time, the place, and where to meet. Everyone in the group can see each other's first names and phone numbers, as in any iMessage group.
- You text “here” when you arrive to check in and earn XP. Afterward, Qwest privately asks how it went.
Qwest may cancel a quest that does not fill, that a venue cancels, or for safety. Qwest does not guarantee a match, a particular group, or that a quest will happen.
What we ask of you
- Show up when you say yes. If you cannot, tell Qwest as early as you can. Repeated no-shows can pause your matching.
- Be decent. No harassment, threats, discrimination, or unwanted advances. Qwest is for group outings, not dating.
- Keep it public. Quests happen at the public venue in the group text. Do not pressure anyone to go somewhere private or to leave the group.
- Keep the group private. Do not share members' names, numbers, or photos outside the group, or post about people in it without their consent.
- Be yourself. Do not use a fake name, someone else's ID, or someone else's number.
- Follow the venue's rules, pay for your own food, drinks, and tickets unless Qwest says otherwise, and follow the law.
- Do not misuse the service: no automated messaging, scraping, probing, or attempts to get around safety checks, limits, or suspensions.
Safety
Text REPORT or UNSAFE to Qwest at any time to file a private safety report; a person on our team reviews every report within a day, and the person you report is never told who filed it. Text SOS during a quest if you need our team urgently. If you are in danger, call 911 first. Qwest is not an emergency service and cannot send help.
While a safety report about you is open, Qwest does not match you, and a report that someone felt unsafe with you pauses your matching right away; only a person on our team can lift that pause, after reviewing the report. A person, not the software, decides whether to suspend an account, and Qwest may suspend accounts that break these terms. We do not conduct background checks on members beyond the ID and student checks described above.
Booking fees and refunds
Some quests carry a small Qwest booking fee, stated in the invite. When you accept, you pay through Stripe's checkout page; Stripe places a hold on your card and nothing is charged yet. The fee is charged only when the group forms. If the quest is cancelled or does not fill, the hold is released, and a fee already charged is refunded.
If you drop out after the group has formed, or do not show up, the fee is not automatically refunded; write to us if there were circumstances we should know about. Venue prices, tickets, food, and drinks are separate and are paid to the venue, not to Qwest. Refunds go back to the card that paid.
Photos
A group photo shared with Qwest is kept, and earns bonus XP, only after every person pictured approves it. Each person can decline, and nothing is kept. By approving a photo you confirm that you have the right to share it and that everyone in it has agreed. Qwest uses approved photos only inside the service and never for advertising without your separate, written permission.
Pausing, suspending, and leaving
- You can stop messages at any time by texting STOP, and delete your account by texting DELETE (see the Privacy Notice).
- Qwest may pause your matching, remove you from a quest, or suspend your account if you break these terms, if a safety report is under review, or if we have to for legal reasons. We will tell you when that happens unless safety or the law prevents it.
- Qwest may end or change the service, in whole or for a school, at any time. Where we can, we will tell you in advance and release any booking-fee holds.
What Qwest is not
Qwest introduces people and suggests public places. It does not run the venues, employ the other members, or supervise quests. Other members are adults responsible for their own conduct, and venues are responsible for their own premises. Qwest is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, and we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Automated replies can be wrong; check times and places in the group text.
Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Qwest is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for the acts of other members or venues, arising from your use of Qwest. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the booking fees you paid Qwest in the twelve months before the claim, or $50, whichever is greater. Some states do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, Qwest will text you before the change takes effect, and this page will show the new effective date. Continuing to use Qwest after that date means you accept the new terms.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
